My baby's gone like a flame Put out by the rain Water down the drain Little face, little feet, little hands in my mind...
The sketch here has a bit of a history - I started it in undergrad. I want to say October of second year. Four years later, I dig up the half-finished base lineart on an airplane between Calgary and Toronto. I had no other blank sheets of paper. So I began noodling around with this awkward, ancient lineart around Thanksgiving. And now it's finally finished.
Northrop is my adorable firefaun. His tail burns as brightly as a Charmander's. Lighting dreamgates and deathdoors. It seems he's taken in interest in painting the little hands that crawl his way. (Changed his colour from red to blue-green on a whim - it matches his Rift incarnation).
0.3 mechanical pencil (sketch), Photoshop CS5 (colours), and a pack of blue fruit roll-ups.
I love the asymmetry of this pieve, and the details that you've worked into both the armor and the cloth are fantastic. He's a great little fantasy creation, and the thing about the hands is wonderful and creepy. It was great of you to give each little hand a different design. Again both the linework and the color work are completely fantastic and so detailed. You've done really wonderful work here.
Inconsistent? I actually that was one of the most consistent parts of your style, haha. I mean, I didn't even know you worked on Drowtales at one point but I recognized the shininess immediately.
the shininess was definitely always there, hahaha. I was referring more to the difficulty in achieving the exact same result in another illustration - which probably only matters when I'm trying to colour a comic. XD
